Desktop Migration

Computacenter provides a comprehensive service that helps you plan, build and deploy Windows technology. Using industry leading tools, best practice and project management methodologies, costs and risks are controlled.

A service component of our Flexible Workplace solution.

What we do

Desktop Migration is an approach to delivering Microsoft Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP and business applications to the desktop. This approach encompasses an end-to-end set of processes, procedures and tools outlining any risks whilst enabling the time and cost of the physical deployment to be dramatically reduced.

The ultimate aim is to provide customers with the most efficient and cost-effective method for delivering a new business desktop, allowing a significant reduction in the ongoing cost of supporting and managing the estate.

Key service features include:

  • Hardware and software audit, application compatibility review, application consolidation and remediation
  • Infrastructure remediation to ensure an organisation's estate can provide
the required capacity and functionality for a robust solution
  • Desktop image creation
  • Application packaging and virtualisation
  • User account, settings and data migration/consolidation
  • Desktop deployment using the latest technologies
  • Operational handover and training

How it helps

Our Desktop Migration service is a set of end-to-end processes and tools designed to optimise the delivery time of Microsoft Windows to the desktop. Our aim is to help you minimise the risks and costs, whilst maximising the benefits.

Increase speed to market
Reduced deployment times and remote management increases the overall speed of refresh – so that you can quickly reap business value from your move to Microsoft Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP

Reduce risk
We manage the costs and risks of a complex deployment using industry leading tools, best practices and proven project management methodologies.

Increase operational efficiency
Our service seamlessly migrates users to a more up-to-date and stable environment, enabling staff to be more productive.

Reduce cost of ownership
We eliminate the need for IT staff to visit the desktop during deployment, or in the future. In addition, centralised migration and ongoing user support minimises the IT burden – driving down the total cost of ownership.

Where we have done it

Following an acquisition by Morgan Sindall, a significant technology programme was required to rationalise an ageing IT estate. To execute the transition in a tight timescale, Morgan Sindall partnered with Computacenter.

Jon Murrell, Group Systems Director at Morgan Sindall explained "We needed a partner with the scale of operations necessary to cope with the project. Computacenter was able to provide technical expertise and flexible engineering resources on an on-demand basis."

In addition to designing and implementing a new server infrastructure, Computacenter was responsible for exchanging over 2,000 employees legacy hardware for brand new devices. This involved visiting more than 50 sites across the country, plus exporting and re-importing all data and systems to each individual's requirements.
